Introduction Message
Ophthalmologists have specialised knowledge in the treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye. This programme equips the resident to become a competent eye surgeon who specialises in providing the highest quality of vision care to all patients.
NHG's Ophthalmology Residency Programme is a 5-year programme that leads to a challenging career upon graduation. There are rapid advances in knowledge and techniques in the specialty of Ophthalmology. Hence, a resident must possess diagnostic and therapeutic abilities, technical skills of microsurgery, and a holistic understanding of the patient in order to successfully manage ophthalmic problems. At our programme, we expose the resident to the fascinating and fast-developing combination of surgical, laser, and medical treatments, ensuring that he/she receives a firm grounding in comprehensive ophthalmology.
Additionally, the Ophthalmic specialty involves managing a wide range of eye conditions, which means the scope for subspecialisation in this field is very wide. The resident can choose to subspecialise in diseases including cornea, vitreo-retina, paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, glaucoma, oculoplastics, and uveitis and neuro-ophthalmology.
NHG Ophthalmology has built up a strong reputation for training and education over the years, where all our doctors and nurses are involved in the teaching of every incoming resident.
