NHG Diagnostic Radiology Residency Programme

Resident's Talk

“Radiology is the perfect combination of my interests in technology and medicine…. It gives us a window into the human body and to find out what ails it.”

Dr Alvin Soon
Senior Resident

Am I eligible to apply for Resident training?

For overseas graduates and applicants, you will first need to secure a job in Singapore with MOH Holdings (MOHH) to be eligible. You will also need to have a basic MBBS degree that is recognised in Singapore.
(More information can be found here.)

What kind of assessments do I have to undergo?

The resident will need to clear the FRCR 2B examinations before he/she enters the R4 year. In R4, there will be an ABMS MCQ paper that the resident needs to pass by the R5 year. Then, at the end of the R5 year, he/she will have to pass an OSCE style examination before he/she is certified with specialist qualifications.

When does the academic year start?

The academic year starts in July.

When do applications open?

Applications open in September every year for the following academic year. Updates can be found on this website.

How many positions does the NHG Diagnostic Radiology offer each academic year?

Our programme offers 6 to 7 positions per year.

How do I increase my chances of being accepted into the NHG Residency Programme?

The potential resident should firstly establish email contact with the Programme Director, telling the director of his/her interest. This email should contain a CV with a passport-sized photograph. The potential resident should also arrange for a 6-month MO rotation either with the Departments of Radiology in TTSH or KTPH. During this rotation, we will assess the potential resident’s suitability for further training as a resident. Although we carefully consider all applications, our programme highly values clinical experience in ED, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Urology, and General Medicine.
