NHG Family Medicine Residency Programme

Resident's Talk

"I chose family medicine because I enjoy building strong relationships with my patients and providing them cost effective and holistic care that focuses on their needs and concerns."

Dr Lawrence Wu
Resident

"As a graduate of the inaugural batch of NHG Family Medicine Residency Programme, it is an honour to return as a faculty member to guide the juniors with my first-hand experience. The open sharing, well-structured programme, and good faculty make learning fun! The belief 'together, we can achieve more' ignites my teaching passion and my return as a teaching faculty. From residency-we learnt, to residency-we serve, for residency-we come together to achieve more!!!"

– Dr Kee Kok Wai, Alumnus, NHG Family Medicine Residency Associate Programme Director

“The FM residency programme included a Resident continuity clinic (RCC) programme in our base polyclinic during our training years. Soon after graduating from the programme, I was given the opportunity to head the first teamlet in AMK polyclinic. The RCC in the FM Residency Programme has given me a headstart as I got to provide continued follow-up with a group of patients under my care. It is fulfilling to be able to use what I’ve learnt during the FM Residency Programme and put it to practice in my current teamlet which provides empanelment of patients. With greater ownership and closer working relationships among our colleagues, we are able to provide overall better care for our patients with teamwork. Patients are happy to see the same doctor and there is improved compliance to treatment.”

- Dr Tricia Chang, Alumna, Lead of Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic Teamlet

“NHG Family Medicine residency provided me with the knowledge I needed to be a competent family physician, as well as the opportunity to develop leadership qualities through exposures such as leading clinical improvement project teams and working with colleagues from other departments. Not only does the faculty provide necessary guidance when required, it also advocates self-directed learning and enrichment which encouraged me to be independent in my own personal and career development. Coming through the residency has definitely improved me both as a clinician as well as prepared me for my new administrative role.”

- Dr Zhang ZhiPeng, Alumnus, Deputy Head of Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic
