"The perennial question: If given a choice, will I choose this programme again? The undoubted answer: Yes! Borrowing a quote from Atul Gawande: Better is possible. It does not take genius. It takes diligence, moral clarity, ingenuity and above all, a willingness to try. Through diligence and sheer willingness to try, by both seniors and juniors alike, we have improved the culture of learning through the years. The programme has taught me to be a better surgeon and doctor, more than I have ever imagined so."
– Dr Joseph Lo, Alumnus
“General surgery was an ideal match for me considering the broad experience that I knew would be afforded to me as a resident. The legacy of the programme was evident in its faculty and current residents when I was applying and recognised that our programme would give me the opportunities to develop a successful future.”
- Dr Pravin Lingam, Alummus
"What struck me the most was the genuine camaraderie among the residents. In a specialty with a work environment that is traditionally very competitive with everyone trying to outdo each other, where the daily work is extremely busy with long exhausting hours — people here somehow still manage to look out for each other. We have perhaps the most diversified group of surgeons and trainees here. We may come from different cultures, races and backgrounds, yet at work we are one big happy family. These are the people whom, even after spending the whole week at work together, I would still choose to hang out with in my free time. I feel at home here in the NHG residency programme."
– Dr Nor Alia, Resident
