NHG National Psychiatry Residency Programme

Resident's Talk

"The Psychiatry Residency Programme, being a national programme, provides a unique platform for rotating through the various institutions. This has enabled me to learn from the many esteemed seniors in this field and forge many close ties."

Dr Goh Shih Ee
Senior Resident

Curriculum

While practising under our department, the resident will have valuable working opportunities in multi-disciplinary teams and interaction with professionals in other medical disciplines. He/she will participate in a wide range of didactic sessions, with opportunities for supervised clinical experience in general psychiatry and the various psychiatry subspecialties.

Subspecialties include:

  • General adult psychiatry
  • Community psychiatry
  • Outpatient psychiatry
  • Geriatric psychiatry
  • Child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Consultation-liaison psychiatry
  • Addiction psychiatry
  • Emergency psychiatry
  • Forensic psychiatry
  • Military psychiatry (for the SAF resident)

Further, the resident may be trained in special areas like women's mental health, eating disorders, neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, research, and psychotherapy.
