The NHG Supporting Exploration among Early-career Doctors (SEED) Programme is a mentoring programme for junior doctors seeking career guidance and professional development from experienced mentors and near-peer mentors. Mentees will have the opportunity to gain valuable perspectives through the sharing of lived experiences by mentors.

Programme Objectives:
  • Nurture junior doctors by supporting their professional and personal growth
  • Facilitate career guidance​

Any junior doctor (PGY1, MO, or junior residents) interested in seeking a mentor to support their career development may join the programme.

Read on our mentors' profiles to understand their experiences and career paths, in order for you to choose your top 3 preferred mentors during the registration process.

Programme Format

  • Mentors and mentees are matched based on area of interest in clinical or non-clinical practice and mentor preferences. Profiles of our mentors are available below for selection.
  • Mentors and mentees will be introduced to each other via email. The first meeting date will be provided.
  • Subsequent meet-ups will be arranged by the mentor-mentee pair at their own discretion.
  • Feedback from both mentors and mentees will be sought upon dissolution of the mentor-mentee relationship.​​

About NHG SEED Programme

Who can register for the NHG SEED programme?
Any junior doctor (PGY1, MO, or junior residents) currently in any NHG institution and js interested in seeking a mentor to support their career development may register the programme.​

How long is the mentoring programme?
The mentorship can be a once-off career guidance session, or a longitudinal 6-month relationship.

Who are the mentors in NHG SEED programme?
We have brought together mentors from across various paths, ranging from near-peers to esteemed clinicians. You can choose your top 3 preferred mentors during the registration process.​

How will I be matched to a mentor?
You will be matched to a mentor based on area of interest in clinical or non-clinical practice and mentor preferences. Mentors will be matched on a first-come, first-served basis.

How often do I meet my mentor?
The first meeting will be arranged after the matching of the mentor-mentee pair is confirmed. Subsequent meetups will be arranged by the mentor-mentee pair upon mutual agreement.

About Career Pathways

What are the different career tracks available, and how do they differ from each other?

There are several 
medical career tracks designed for doctors in NHG.

With the increasing demands for safer, evidence-based, and novel patient care treatments, various career pathways for doctors have emerged. Doctors in NHG may embark on career pathways that focus the following areas:

a)      Research and Innovation
b)      Clinical Education
c)      Clinical Informatics
d)      Patient Safety and Quality
e)      Healthcare Leadership and Administration

In addition, you may be interested in the Hospital Clinician (HC) scheme in NHG, which is a nationally recognised long-term career pathway that is designed for doctors who wish to work in acute and sub-acute public hospitals, and aspire to reach higher level of responsibilities

Are there special tracks for clinician scientists in NHG?

Developing our people in research and innovation is a key strategic thrust of NHG. Together with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NHG offers comprehensive research and innovation talent development roadmaps that provide customised support from basic research/innovation training, formal PhD training, to post-doctoral pursuits and industry collaborations.

About Postgraduate Medical Training

What training programmes are available in NHG?

All medical students in Singapore are required to successfully complete one year of Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) training before embarking on postgraduate training. Junior doctors may then consider the 26 medical residency programmes, and various advanced specialist training programmes offered by NHG.​​
