Introduction Message

Ophthalmologists are specialists in managing diseases of the eye and orbit. The NHG residency ophthalmology programme is structured to equip all residents with the necessary skills to become competent eye surgeons, able to provide the highest quality of care to all patients with ophthalmic disorders.  

The NHG Ophthalmology Residency Programme is a challenging 5-year programme that culminates in a fulfilling career in Ophthalmology upon graduation. To keep pace with rapid advances in the field of Ophthalmology, this programme trains residents to develop an inquisitive and inquiring mind by encouraging research at every level of training. Additionally, residents are taught to develop a keen sense of clinical acumen, technical ability in microsurgery and a holistic understanding of each patient, to manage each ophthalmic disorder with compassion for the person

The NHG ophthalmology Residency Programme provides exposure to all facets of both comprehensive and sub-specialty Ophthalmology. This ensures that each resident not only receives firm grounding in General Ophthalmology, but is also given the opportunity to consider sub-specialty training in future.​

Facilities

A wide range of facilities are available to create a conducive environment for residency training. Residents have access to an Ophthalmic Surgical Simulator, as well as a wet lab for microsurgical training. Amongst other equipment, the latest in ophthalmic imaging equipment provides each resident the training required to investigate and manage complex ophthalmic conditions.​
