Curriculum

We have a structured 3.5-year resident-centered and outcome-based educational programme, which aims to enable each senior resident to achieve clearly defined competencies for each year of training and for each module they rotate through.

The emphasis for the first year senior resident is on acquiring the knowledge and bedside clinical skills of a cardiology consultant with a particular focus on prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disorders.

The second and third year senior resident will learn the indications, contraindications and benefits of specific cardiac investigations and become increasingly consummate in performing cardiac investigations such as cardiac catheterization and echocardiography. The resident will also be mentored by faculty members on how to write clinical abstracts and papers, with the ultimate aim of publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The resident will be given opportunities to present his/her abstracts and papers in local and overseas cardiology meetings.

The teaching programme and subspecialty modular rotations are designed to be comprehensive and clinically relevant. The senior resident will have at least 2 months' rotation in each cardiology sub-specialty and 6 months' rotation in General Medicine or Geriatric Medicine.
