Dermatology Residency Programme

Resident's Talk

Dermatology is a unique specialty that bridges medicine, surgery, and pathology. Dermatologists can diagnose diseases through skin signs, manage complex skin conditions, perform intricate skin surgeries and more – all while looking good doing it.

DR WU XIAOTIAN
Chief Resident

Introduction Message

Dermatology is the specialty that studies the relationship between skin pathologies and malfunctions of other bodily organs. NHG's Dermatology Senior Residency Programme is designed to equip Residents with an educational and practical experience that allows Residents to deliver specialised care to patients with diseases of the skin.

The NHG Dermatology Residency Programme offers three and a half years of dermatology education. Residents will be rotated to National Skin Centre (18 months) and 6 months each to CGH, NUH and SGH Dermatology. The first year of the programme places emphasis on general dermatology, dermatopathology, basic surgical procedures, and sexually transmitted infections. In the second year, Residents will gain in-depth clinical exposure to subspecialties in dermatology, including procedural dermatology, skin cancers, photobiology and phototherapy, and inpatient dermatology. The final year focuses on consolidation of knowledge and the attainment of independent professional competence. Residents will undergo six months of General Medicine during residency training.
Throughout the educational journey, Residents will receive guidance from our team of passionate faculty dedicated to ensuring a fulfilling and rewarding learning experience. Upon completion of residency training, Residents will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle common and complex dermatological cases encountered in typical outpatient and inpatient settings. Residents will also be well-grounded in dermatological principles and be able to seamlessly progress to advanced dermatological fellowships offered either locally or overseas.
