Why the Sports Medicine Integrated Programme might be the right choice for me?
This programme is suitable for those with an interest in furthering their knowledge, skills and practice in the area of sports and exercise medicine. It will equip trainees with the skills required for covering sports events and working with sports teams, seeing patients with musculoskeletal complaints, prescribing exercise to patients and individuals across various populations, doing preparticipation screening, and performing sports medicine procedures. Prior experience in the areas of musculoskeletal medicine, basic physiology and sports physiology would be helpful but are not pre-requisites.
What are the exams that I must take?
- Basic Cardiac life support (must be valid at the time of exit)
- Advanced Cardiac life support (must be valid at the time of exit)
- Advanced Trauma life support (must be valid at the time of exit)
- American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist
or equivalent certification
- Completion of a musculoskeletal ultrasound course
(Alexandra Academy for Clinical & Emergency Sonography or equivalent) - Biostatistics/research techniques course
- Bioethics Course
- Sports Medicine Exit Examination

There are many opportunities for research. This can be in a variety of areas related to sports medicine, exercise medicine and sports science.
What are the sub-specialisation opportunities available?
There are no formal sub-specialisations but there are opportunities to develop particular areas of interest which include (but are not limited to): musculoskeletal ultrasound and related procedures, preventive exercise medicine, elite performance sports medicine.
