​What are the programme's selection criteria for residency application?

We look for the following qualities in our potential applicants:

1.    Clinical competence

  • Clinical experience in relevant postings (example: medical officer posting, elective medical student attachment etc.).
  • Medical knowledge: Demonstrate good understanding of the basic and clinical sciences relevant to ENT.
  • Surgical aptitude: Able to perform basic ENT procedures competently.
  • Good work performance and feedback in prior postings.

2.    Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Effective and clear communication with patients and their families.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nursing and allied health team.​

3.    Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

  • Participate in research and/or quality improvement projects.

4.    Professionalism

  • Demonstrate integrity and accountability at work.
  • Conscientiousness in completing tasks given (example: completing administrative and clinical work on time).

5.    Personal Attributes

  • Resilience.
  • Team player.
  • Teachable: Desire to listen, learn and apply teaching.
  • Commitment to completion of the 5-year ENT residency programme.​

Pre-requisites

Although not an essential pre-requisite, applicants are highly encouraged to attempt the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) examination before the start of ENT residency.​
